TITTLE: LIGHT – A BIT OF FACT, A BIT OF FICTION
AUTHOR: VIKKY ABRAHAM

Being a woman in the Indian society isn’t easy. I don’t say that everyone here is bad but a major chunk of society here does seem so to me. From a very young age girls are taught to adjust, to keep quiet, getting involved in the household chores etc. Some are even deprived of the basic education because the “so-called” society believes that they wouldn’t need them as all they are supposed to do is get married and bear children. Even after being sexually/ physically/mentally assaulted and exploited, they are asked to keep their mouths shut and forget it. Female feticide is still a common term here. Women are still fighting for their rights and God knows till when it’s going to be like this. For me, a good start would be woman supporting woman and sons being raised right.
This book consists of 6 extremely thought provoking short stories :
1. Her First Orgasm
2. First Wedding Anniversary
3. First Born
4. Happy
5. Mausi
6. Pandemic
Six different stories, setup completely differently leaving us thinking and wondering about the various truths about the society we live in.
Not gonna talk about the stories in detail because I don’t want to give away spoilers.
Really liked the writing style and flow. I felt that Her First Orgasm, Mausi and Pandemic could have been told a bit better which would have made this book an exceptional read. Though these are sad stories they are worth reading.
I would ask everyone of you to read it and please don’t go by the name of the stories, they are much more than that.
MY RATING- 3.5/5
