Author– Sonia Sahijwani
“A young girl Sia has recently finished her graduation in Law against her parent’s wishes. With absolutely no family background in the legal profession, she sets out to explore the various opportunities this not so common but upcoming field of law brings her way. The protagonist Sia, narrates to us few such unusual and memorable incidents including some eccentric court room dramas, all of which left a deep impact in her life.”
This book has 6 short stories, each talks about important elements of the legal profession:
1. 99 Vs निन्यानबे – The Complaint ( Equity follows the law)
2. The Kid on the last bench
The Court (The Practice of court is the law of court)
3. The Wait for Item No. 25
The Case (The law cannot fail in dispensing justice)
4. Behind those dark shades
The Counsel (The law speaks to all with one mouth)
5. Jail No. 5
The Confinement (That punishment may come to a few, the fear of it should effect all)
6. Qaidi No. 90
The Criminal (The Crime Carries the person)
This is the debut book of the author and I would say that it has an attractive tittle. It’s a short read and can be finished in one go. It talks about various things and incidents related to law and all the people in that profession.
I got hooked to the book when I read the preface about how the author’s book got published much later than it was written. But after reading for some time, I felt disconnected with the book. I wish the characters were being talked about in detailed specially, the protagonist Sia. Also felt that the transition from one story to the other could have been more smooth. Though the people who are studying law or are in this profession, they would find it more relatable.
